Getting the Classroom Ready

Hello everyone! I have been busy getting my classroom ready for the new school year. I had Kindercamp this past Monday and the kids brought their supplies. I finally got the supplies organized and put away.

The Vice Principal made these cute survival kits for the teachers. It was a nice surprise to receive at our back to school meeting.

Here are the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees that the kids made at Kinder Camp.

Here is a tour of my classroom. This is my class jobs bulletin board and the behavior chart.

This is the calendar bulletin board.

This is the front of my room.

 Here is our word wall.

Here is the writing wall. I display the students' writing here.
This is a picture of the religion and language arts centers.
My classroom is set up and I can't wait to meet my new students on Monday!

Treasure Box

During silent reading time, I look for the quietest table of students who are reading. The students at the quietest table get to choose an item out of the treasure box at the end of the day. Yesterday, I was at Michaels Arts and Crafts Store and I found these grab bags. I decided to try my luck and buy two of them in the hopes that I would end up with a lot of awesome items for my treasure box.

Here is what came out of two bags.

I got 60 items for $4.00! I got note tablets, note cards, glitter letters, buttons, cards, treat bags, paper crafting embellishments and much more! Most of the items are perfect for my prize box (I did not put the lip gloss in my prize box).
If you have a Michaels store in your neighborhood, I definitely recommend going and picking up a few of these grab bags before they are gone.

Book Jacket Puzzles

Last weekend, I got some new books for my classroom. I usually take off the book jackets and just throw them away because they get mangled by the kids anyway, but this time I decided to laminate the front cover of the book jacket and cut it apart to make puzzles for my kindergarten students. The students love putting together these book jacket puzzles when they are done with their work.

George Washington Activities

Last month we learned about George Washington. We made this cute craftivity by A Cupcake for the Teacher. (Oh, and look how cute my sparkle clips look on our clothesline.)

The kids also made a cherry and labeled the parts of a cherry.
Here is the anchor chart that we made when we were talking about the parts of a cherry.

My students loved the sparkle clips so much that I made some to put in our prize box. I also made these cute flower clips to put in the prize box.

Open House

A few weeks ago we had open house at my school.
When the parents walked in I had a paper about our kindergarten program that they could take home with them. This was mostly for prospective parents. I also put a sample of various activities that we do in class on each table. The first table had sample art masters portfolios on it.
The second table had some of the students' reading logs on it.
The third table had pictures of activities that we do during small group.
The fourth table had samples of our task homework, class newsletters, workbooks, and our Friday folder on it.

The fifth table had samples of our music masters portfolio so that the parents could see what the kids are learning about in music class.
The sixth table had some of the students' journals on it.
It was a very busy day. The parents loved seeing all of their student's work that was hung up around the classroom.

Glitter Clothespins

I made these cute clothespins with glitter tape that I got at Joann Fabric and Craft Store. I just put the tape on the clothespin and trimmed the edges. It costs about $6.00 to make fifty of these adorable clothespins. I used green glitter tape because my classroom is frog themed. My students love them so much that I am going to make glitter clothespins in various colors and put them in my prize box.

Class Auction Item Update

We are almost done creating our class auction item. We just have to finish making our winter tree. I am so pleased with how these trees have turned out!
