Graduation 2016

We had our Kindergarten graduation at the beginning of June. My room mom made this poem about our Kindergarten year and gave one to each student. It was such a cute idea!

Here are the kids ready to graduate.

Here is the hall and all of our decorations.

Parent volunteers made chunky crayons out of our left over crayon pieces and the students got to take them home on graduation day.

It was a wonderful day. Now to start planning for next year. Have a wonderful summer!

Last Cooking Activity of the Year

On Monday, we did the last cooking activity of the year. We made strawberry shortcake. I couldn't find pre-made shortcake at the store, so we used ladyfingers. First the kids put two ladyfingers next to each other on a plate. Next, they put whipped cream on the ladyfingers. Then, the kids cut up the strawberries into chunks and put them on top of the whipped cream. Last, the kids added a blueberry on top.

It was a yummy treat!

Math Fun With Erasers

We are learning about ladybugs this month. I bought these cute mini bug erasers from Oriental Trading and we did four math activities with them today.

First, we made bug patterns.

Then, we did bug subtraction. We started with 10 and took away 8...

We ended up with 2 bugs.

Then, we practiced addition. Four plus six equals ten. 4 + 6 = 10
2 + 8 =10

Finally, we made a graph out of our bugs and we talked about what we had the most of and the least of.

Teacher Time: Seaport Village

Our school recently had our annual auction. This year there was a silent auction for "teacher time". The teacher gets to choose an activity to do on a weekend with a students and one of his friends and families bid on it. This year I decided to take the kids to Seaport Village and ride the carousel, have hot cocoa and read books at the Upstart Crow book store, and then take a ferry ride to Coronado and have a picnic lunch by the beach. We had so much fun!

Here we are the the Upstart Crow.

The boys chose a book to buy.

We rode the carousel.

We took the ferry to Coronado. The boys liked looking at the Midway from the ferry.

This is us on the beach at Coronado.

We had a great day!

Field Trip: Torrey Pines

Last week, we went on a field trip to Torrey Pines. We hiked down the beach trail and then we looked at the creatures on Flat Rock. We had so much fun! The kids did an awesome job hiking.

We saw crabs, molluscs, and sea anemones.

The kids loved exploring the beach.

Wild Things Play 2016

At the end of April we performed our version of Where the Wild Things Are.  We had a lot of fun.

Here is our class all dressed up.

I made this Max decoration and displayed it at the gate as the audience walked into the school.

We made vines out of green paper.

Monster footprints showed the way to the hall. We also made a wild thing mouth for the doorway.

We decorated all of the classroom doors as wild things.

The students had to walk through this wild thing door. The sign on the door says "Wild Things Enter Here".

This is the set for Max' room.

This is the set for where the wild things live.

These are our programs.

The room moms made these yummy treats for us to eat after the play.

The students are ready for the play.

Our Max was awesome!
