Math
We did an estimation activity. The kids had to estimate how many Teddy Grahams would fit in the teddy bear head. Then they covered the teddy bear head with Teddy Grahams and wrote down the actual answer.
We learned about five different types of bears and then we made a graph of our favorite bears.
We made picnic food patterns with markers.
We compared the shape of teddy bears.
We did bear ten frame addition. The students had to show the addition problem on a ten frame. Then they had to show the answer to the problem with stickers. They also had to write the answer to the problem.
The students practiced telling time.
Language Arts
We practiced beginning sounds with items you might see on a picnic.
We also did a beginning sounds cut and paste activity.
We made a class book about what our teddy bears did at the picnic.
Poetry
We wrote acrostic poems about bears.
Science
We read a book about bears and made a can, have, are chart about bears.
We made a bear and labeled the parts of a bear.
We sorted bear pictures into groups based on if they were living or nonliving.
We wrote a report about bears.
We also read a book about hibernation and talked about animals that hibernate.
Cooking
We talked about what bears eat. Then we made trail mix (freeze dried strawberries, Goldfish, Teddy Grahams, and Honey Comb cereal). They students said it was yummy.
Art
We made this teddy bear tissue paper art project.
Music
We sang these songs: The Ants Go Marching, Going On a Bear Hunt, and Teddy Bear Teddy Bear Turn Around.
Teddy Bear Picnic
We finished our unit with a surprise picnic. We had a three-legged race.
We did an egg on a spoon relay race.
We played parachute games.
We had a picnic lunch (sandwiches, Teddy Grahams, an orange, gummy bears, and water).
We played with balloons.
We played with bubbles.
We had a great time!
