Degas Art
We have been learning about Edgar Degas for art masters. The students made these beautiful ballerinas. First, the kids sponge painted the white paper. Next, I traced a ballerina on their paper (the boys requested boy dancers). Finally, the kids used oil pastels to color the ballerina.

Seven Sacraments
Last week, we learned about the seven sacraments. On Monday, we made a poster to remind us what each sacrament is.
On Tuesday, we sang a song called Children of God.
When they are done their art work looks like a stained glass window.

Children of God, in one Family.
Loved by God, in one Family.
And no matter what we do,
God loves me and God loves you.
On Wednesday, we did a sacraments collage. The kids color symbols for each sacrament. Then they cut out the pictures and glue them on a piece of white paper. Finally, the kids use liquid starch to glue tissue paper squares on top of the pictures.

Handwriting
We have finished our handwriting book. Now we are working on writing numbers on writing paper. The kids use markers and write which ever number we are working on. We write each number together and when they finish writing the number they hold their marker in the air so I know they are ready to move on.

They love using markers to do their work.

Lent Prayer Chain
I found this Lent prayer chain on Catholic Inspired. We remove one link from the chain each day after we do calendar. Each link has a prayer on it. I removed some of the prayer links that I thought would be difficult to explain to kindergarten children (for example, "say a prayer for those who are abused"). Since we are not at school on the weekends, I removed a link for each Saturday and Sunday during Lent and for Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
The link below says "Say an extra 'Glory Be' for religious teachers. May they teach the faith correctly."

St. Joseph
Last Friday, we did a family activity about St. Joseph. I found this activity on the website Catholic Inspired. I modified it so that we could do the activity for 230 kids and only spend $85.00. I got sandpaper at Home Depot. I bought a large bottle of Mod Podge at Michaels craft store and divided it up into 18 baby food jars. I bought 2" scrabble tiles at Joann's. I printed the pictures off of the internet.
First, the students sanded the writing off of the scrabble tile. Next, the students trimmed the picture of St. Joseph. Then, the students wrote St. Joseph on the wood. Last, the students used Mod Podge to glue the picture of St. Joseph onto the wood tile. Here is the finished product. It is not quite dry yet. The Mod Podge dries completely clear.

Kindergarten Cooking
Today, for cooking, we made strawberry banana kabobs.
Here is the kabob I made with my first group of students.
The kids cut the fruit all by themselves.
Then, they used the fruit to make an AB pattern (red, white, red, white...).
Then, they ate their kabobs.

Dr. Seuss
Monday was Dr. Seuss' Birthday. We did many fun activities for his birthday. The kids worked on putting words from Dr. Seuss' books in ABC order.
We talked about plural nouns and made green eggs and ham plates. The students could chose to make up to three eggs.
We ate green eggs and ham treats. This is a pretzel, white chocolate and a sour apple jelly belly.
We also ate a red fish treat. These tasty treats were made with sugar cookies with blue frosting, fish confetti, and a Swedish Fish. My room mom did the cooking. She is awesome!
